About Love Akron

Love Akron is a champion of great causes and a
catalyst for change. Motivated by our faith —
coupling our firm foundation, new leadership,
partners and messaging; Love Akron is positioned
and uniquely designed to lead this Noun to Verb movement.

Love Akron's Reason Why

from the beginning

Love Akron was formed to be a catalyst for change and support!
A Christian- based organization working to unify the colors, cultures, and congregations of Greater Akron.

The Least of These

Our Least of These Initiative will help mobilize all sectors of Greater Akron as RAHAB launches their transitional housing program. Alongside Summit County Children’s Services, Love Akron will help rally and educate the community to care for more than 800 kids in foster care.

Mental Health and Wellness

We are partnering with the Summit County ADM Board to offer the Grief Recovery Model to change the culture of mental health so that those in Greater Akron can receive the care and support they deserve. Through our Mental Health and Wellness Initiative, Love Akron will join forces with Red Oak Behavioral Health to host Mental First Aid Training sessions for the faith, educational, and public sectors, all while addressing misinformation and raising awareness.

United Through Love

Our United Through Love initiative allows us to support individuals in becoming bridge builders toward racial healing. With love and respect for each other as equals, we’ll convene change-makers from around Greater Akron to address the personal, organizational, and cultural implications of race in our city.

ONE City

“ONE City” becomes the overarching umbrella of Love Akron’s efforts to bring together the Church of Greater Akron. Through the ONE City Initiative, believers, churches, and local ministries personify the body of Christ in our communities!

Through ONE City our prayers, hopes and dreams have a place to thrive. We can learn, work, and connect together as ONE City!“

Lori Porter

Lori's Mission is to.....

Lori’s mission is to make a lasting impact on those she has the pleasure to serve in the city she loves… called Akron!
She serves as Operations Coordinator for Love Akron and is a bi-vocational pastor who leads a congregation in the South Akron’s -Summit Lake community.
Passionate about equipping the next generation, she knows
well the importance and power of community!  Lori has spent the majority of her career serving mostly in the church and para-church/nonprofit
She has twenty-five years ministerial experience and twenty years
administration and management experience.
She has twenty-five years ministerial experience and twenty years
administration and management experience. Lori served as program director and youth mentor for many years, where she developed and managed mentoring programs for youth in foster care and those with

Juvenile court involvement. Responsibilities included but were not limited to development of youth mentoring programs, day to day operations, as well as the development of the adult mentor tranining modules used to train mentors who served many at risk youth.

This mother and grandmother of twelve once spoke of her role and journey  with Love Akron, saying, “My life has been full and fulfilling. I’ve had the opportunity to start a business that failed and plant a church that is growing and thriving.
I’ve worked in the nonprofit and forprofit business sectors and
have watched many different types of mergers from churches to banks:
some ended well and others did not! Through every transition I have found this to be true, “Change is a given, but transition is a process”.
Working for Love Akron in many capacities including my current position has reminded me that as believers we must strive to leverage the impact for Christ in every sector of our community and in every sphere of our own personal area of influence.
She often responds to situations plain and
simple Rome wasn’t built in a day so, “trust the process”.
